Lizzo Brought the Side Ponytail Back for Cardi B’s Birthday

Lizzo performs on stage in a blue outfit at FOMO Festival 2020Getty Images

Cardi B celebrated her 29th birthday with a dancehall-themed party on Monday, October 11 and we need to have some conversations about it. Specifically, we need to talk about Lizzo's appearance for the night. The singer, who collaborated with Cardi on their hit single "Rumors," stepped out in a glimmering full-length sequin dress — which was also completely transparent, much to everyone's delight.

But the real star of Lizzo's party look (at least if you ask us), is her hair. Opting for something totally new, she donned two side ponytails — or should we call them asymmetric pigtails? We're not sure —  with oversized silver butterfly clips. Whatever they're called, both honey-blonde 'tails cascade for what feels like miles, ending just beneath the singer's beloved butt.

Instagram content

View on Instagram

Though this is the first time we've seen this kind of hairstyle on Lizzo, it definitely isn't the first time — nor will it be the last – that she's used butterflies to draw attention to her hair. Earlier this year, she adorned her adorable afro with realistic monarch butterfly clips. Shortly after, she wore two long and wavy pigtails with pink, purple, and blue butterfly clips placed throughout. Clearly, Lizzo's got a thing for insects, and we're totally on board with it.

We'd also be silly not to talk about the fact that somehow, after trying endless hairstyles, Lizzo and her glam team are still coming up with fresh and inventive styles, cuts, and colors for her to wear. What will they deliver next? Who knows — but whatever that ends up being, it's guaranteed to look good as hell.

Reviewed: Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand and Blush Wand

The Everygirl’s product selections are curated by the editorial team. If you buy something through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely love.

Back in February, I fell head over heels with Madison Beer’s viral Vogue makeup routine. Before I got sucked into the frenzy like everyone else, I was pretty disinterested in makeup. It’s not like I had a personal vendetta against it or anything, but the achievable, natural, yet noticeable look demonstrated by Beer’s technique truly got me excited about makeup again.

So much so that I went straight to Michigan Avenue (in the pouring rain sans umbrella, might I add), to get my hands on two products that literally made my jaw drop when she used them: the Charlotte Tilbury contour wand and blush wand. Reviews called them pigmented yet natural, lightweight, and a one-stop shop to sculpted perfection. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t the only one who had the idea, and I was a bit tardy to the party—the cons of viral videos that reach me but also reach the rest of the population.

I busted through the doors at Sephora and slid on over to the Charlotte Tilbury stand to get my hands on the contour and blush wands, only to find that they were completely out of stock. I was a bit salty and very much soggy from the rain, but I said aloud, “No matter, I’ll check online.” And that’s when I realized that the two products I thought I needed to achieve the Madison Beer glow were completely out of stock. I signed up for restock lists, Charlotte Tilbury texts that I’m too lazy to turn off, and refreshed their website twice a day, waiting for the drop.

But in the wise words of our girl H. Duff, waiting for the restock was like waiting for rain in a drought: useless and disappointing. After months of (im)patience, I decided that it was time to settle for the next best thing. Nothing was going to stop me from Madison’s signature glow. And where do I go when I need equal parts moral support and solution? Ulta.

The dupes

If I was going to try and find a dupe for the popular contour wand and cream blush, my one rule was that I wasn’t going to spend an arm and a leg doing it. After a quick search on TikTok, I found that a lot of users were wearing the Revolution Eye Bright Concealer as a contour wand so that seemed like a decent place to start. I couldn’t find any popular dupes for the Pinkgasm highlight stick so my plan was to wing it. At the Revolution kiosk, I found a concealer in a much-darker-than-my-skin-tone shade that had a similar applicator to the Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand and, at a neighboring stand, settled on a cream blush with a doe-foot applicator that had pretty decent reviews online. And the best part? They were both under $10—my idea of a good time.

I can’t lie, I didn’t expect too much from either of these products. After all, they were just a replacement until I got the real deal. So imagine my surprise when I tried Madison Beer’s makeup routine for the first time with my dupes and actually loved it. It was a makeup look that I got compliments on (coming from someone who never gets compliments on makeup) and one that truly lasted me all day (note: at the time of first use, I was out of any sort of setting spray).

It took me two tries to get the Revolution Eye Bright Concealer right because it dries pretty quickly. But on my second attempt of working swiftly to put three dots under each cheekbone and buff it in with a beauty blender, I was hooked. It made me look snatched and stayed exactly where I wanted it for hours on end.

And, in the pattern of love at second sight, NYX Sweet Cheeks cream blush blew me away too. On my first attempt, I put on way too much. This stuff packs a punch. But after a quick swipe of a makeup wipe and some experience under my belt I can honestly say—it’s probably the most pigmented, long-wearing blush I’ve ever used. It’s also worth mentioning that, while the packaging may not be as pretty as its high-end counterpart, it allowed for a clean application and features a simple screw top that kept me (a person prone to mess-making) from making a mess.

The high-end options—worth the hype?

After two months of loving my makeshift Madison Beer makeup routine, my phone buzzed with a text. You guessed it—Charlotte Tilbury herself (er, her text service, if you will) alerting me of the long-awaited beauty wand restock. If I had gotten the same text two months prior, I would have yeeted to the website with record-breaking speed. But, for a moment, I paused. My makeup routine was complete. I was happy with my dupes. But as all classic grass-is-greener-on-the-other-side stories go, I bought both a $38 contour wand and the same-priced blush stick, mostly out of curiosity.

After they arrived to my apartment building and I unboxed them like a wannabe makeup influencer, I opened them with care. The packaging was beautiful. And after months and months of waiting, they were finally in my hands. I had absolutely nothing to do that day (not even a Zoom meeting to show off my face), but you already know—I did full glam solely so that I could try them out.

I prepped my face in the exact same way that I had for months. I washed my face, used toner, and went in with a vitamin C serum and a moisturizer. I prepped with a primer and then used my usual foundation. All was well in paradise, so I reached for my brand-spanking-new and long-awaited products.

Up first was the contour wand. I applied it the same way that Madison did: a stroke underneath each cheekbone and blended with a beauty sponge. This formula traveled a lot more than my drugstore dupe and was a lot sheerer. It had a dewy finish that left me glowing, which I appreciated. I looked warm but not contoured, if that makes sense.

Next up was the widely loved Pinkgasm blush stick that I had been wanting to try even before Madison Beer made it viral. The color was absolutely stunning on her, and watching her beat it from her cheeks to the tip of her nose was truly a magical experience that I watched an embarrassing number of times. This highlighter blush was exactly that. Highlighter + blush. Personally, I love blush but I prefer to keep my highlight on the high points on my cheekbones. This two-in-one product doesn’t necessarily let you achieve that, especially if you’re someone who likes to add blush to the apples of your cheeks (i.e. me). Besides that, I found that the initially gorgeous pigmentation didn’t last all day like the Nyx Sweet Cheeks formula did.

I definitely looked warmer and more done up after I used the Charlotte Tilbury options, but I can’t lie: I didn’t love them. Both products spread a lot during application, which left me less contoured than I would like, and the sheer, dewy nature of each product didn’t really stand the test of time. Not to mention that, over the course of having each for a few months, I’ve 1) forgotten to close them both at some point, which resulted in a huge mess in my makeup bag, and 2) watched helplessly as the sponge applicator slowly peeled away and ultimately departed from the contour wand’s original packaging.

The final verdict

After a few months of having both the high-end products and their dupes, I have to say that the dupes reign supreme this time around. The Charlotte Tilbury wands aren’t bad. The packaging is pretty, the formula is creamy and satisfying to put on, and they make you look super glowy, which I can appreciate. But for $38 a pop and for them to 1) look almost entirely the same as products that are almost a quarter of the price or 2) not last the entire day, I can’t say that I’ll be repurchasing.

I still will give credit where credit is due. If it weren’t for these higher-end, cream-based contour and blush products, I’d still be kicking it with powder products. The viral, more expensive products led me to my long-lost loves—their dupes. For that, I am forever grateful. I’ll definitely use them up until they’re gone, but when it comes to replacing, I’ll reach for the dupes time and time again until something better comes along—or at least until Madison Beer x Vogue releases an updated part two in the future.

Sweater Care: How to Properly Take Care of Your Sweaters

Source: Alaina Kaczmarski for The Everygirl

When the weather is cold, you know exactly what you want to reach for when getting dressed in the morning—not your silky camisole, not your trendy blazer, and not your fancy work top. No, when the weather is freezing, you want to reach for a trusted, comfy, so-cozy-you-never-want-to-take-it-off sweater. From early fall to the end of winter, a sweater is undoubtedly your best friend. And like any other best friend, sweaters require love and care. While they’re extremely delicate, they can last through many wears and many seasons if you treat them the right way. Here are eight sweater care tips to help you properly take care of all your knits so they can last as long as you want them to:

1. Remove pills the right way

Is there anything as annoying as pilling on a favorite sweater!? A perfectly fine and pretty wool cardigan can start to look like an ungroomed dog after a while. Unfortunately, all sweaters pill—it’s caused by rubbing during wear and is more apparent around the elbows, under armpits, and on sleeves, but it can occur anywhere on the sweater. To remove pills easily, hold the sweater flat with one hand and slice the pills off (one at a time) with a razor. You can also buy a pill remover. Do not pull at them or else the pilling will become worse.

2. Turn noticeable snags inside out

Snags (AKA when the stitch comes out of the sweater) are the worst because they seem unfixable, and you risk the sweater unraveling if the snag gets caught on something. Snags are not completely fixable, but luckily, they can be placed on the inside so that they’re no longer an issue on the outside. Simply turn the sweater inside out, insert a crochet hook into the same stitch as the snag, and carefully pull the snag through (a safety pin will also work in a pinch). You’ll no longer be able to see the snag, and you won’t run the risk of the snag getting caught on something.

3. Regularly remove dandruff, hair, and lint

Thanks to the soft wool, knit, or cashmere that we all know and love, the fabric of sweaters can sometimes act as a magnet, attracting and sticking to dust, lint, dandruff, or strands of hair. A child’s soft hairbrush or a soft toothbrush will help you quickly brush off anything on the sweater (looking at you, dog hair!) for an easy fix, but make sure not to brush too harshly on the sweater or it will loosen the fabric and create pills. You can brush through after every wear, but a quick TLC for all your sweaters once a month is sufficient to prevent lint, dandruff, dust, or hair pile-up.

4. Know how to wash (and when)

PSA: Washing your sweaters doesn’t have to be a pain. Most sweaters should be hand washed so they last longer and the fabric stays intact. To hand wash, fill a bucket or sink with cool water, add a few squirts of gentle laundry detergent, submerge the sweater, and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Then, rinse it under cool water. To dry, gently squeeze water out the sweater (never wring it out) and roll it up in a towel (like a sleeping bag or sushi roll) to suck up all the excess water. Finally, lay it flat on a drying rack or clean towel to dry.

Cotton and cashmere typically need to be washed after two to three wears, while wool or polyester can withstand about five wears. But make sure to follow the directions on the label, and don’t wash more often unless the sweater has a stain (like sweat or a spill). And if it says dry clean only (as it does with most wool), then you know the drill: dry clean only.

5. To extend washes, wear a T-shirt underneath

Even gentle hand washing can wear down the quality, fabric, or softness of any sweater over time, so if you wear your sweaters frequently, consider wearing a T-shirt underneath to extend the time in between washes. Wearing a T-shirt acts as a barrier between the sweater and skin, limiting the amount of outside forces and smells the fabric interacts with. Since things like sweat, body odor, oils on the skin, and deodorant can cause wear and tear, the sweater stays intact longer when you wear a layer underneath that acts as a barrier. Now all you have to worry about is spilling your latte.

6. You can  save an itchy sweater

Is there anything worse than a sweater so itchy, it loses all its coziness? In order to turn itchy back to soft and cozy, add liquid fabric softener to the cold water when you’re hand-washing your sweater. Allow the sweater to thoroughly swirl around the water and let it sit. You can also try adding half a cup of hair conditioner instead of fabric softener for extra softness. Just make sure you avoid 2-in-1 conditioner/shampoo combinations or heavy hair masks and stick to hydrating or standard conditioner (not other formulas meant for volumizing or thickening). After one to three treatments, your sweater should be back to its soft and cozy self.

7. Store sweaters properly

Repeat after me: Never hang sweaters. Hanging will cause sweaters to stretch out and create peaks in the shoulders. To store them in a way that maintains their shape and quality, keep sweaters folded or rolled in drawers or on shelves. Properly fold them by laying them front-down on a flat surface and fold each arm (from the sleeve seam diagonally across the sweater’s back). Then, either fold it horizontally in half or roll from the bottom hem up to the collar. If you must hang them, fold the sweater over the hanger, on top of a piece of tissue paper to prevent creases.

8. Pack up sweaters after winter

Yes, all good things must come to an end, and when sweater season is over, your sweaters deserve to be stored the right way for extra protection and to help hold shape through the spring and summer months. Don’t just throw them in bins as is and hope for the best. Take the time to properly clean them, fold them, and put them in clothing storage bags (that are breathable) or boxes (as long as they’re made out of cotton or canvas). Add in a small satchel filled with lavender to prevent bugs (and keep them smelling fresh!). Hot tip: Do not put sweaters in vacuum-sealed storage bags. It might seem like it’s saving space, but locking in moisture can cause yellowing or mildew.

How to Get Your Pumpkin Spice Fix This Season

The Everygirl’s product selections are curated by the editorial team. If you buy something through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely love.

Source: Alaina Kaczmarski for The Everygirl

The most magical time of the year has finally arrived: pumpkin spice season. Forget iced coffees and matcha; our Starbucks baristas know we’ll only be ordering off of the fall menu from here on out (there’s a lot more than PSLs, BTW). A pumpkin spice latte on the Starbucks menu announces fall like the groundhog announces spring, and the PSL has officially spoken. However, the best flavor of the season isn’t just for your Starbucks coffee. You can bet all of our candles, home decor, and even beauty products will also have a little sprinkle of pumpkin spice until winter. Get out your fuzzy sweaters, start raking leaf piles, watch When Harry Met Sally three times in a row, and stock up on our favorite pumpkin spice products if you can’t get your fix from just the latte.

Califia Farms

Almond Milk Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer

Sorry, Starbucks. We love you, but sometimes we just want to stay at home and snuggle up with a homemade PSL. This creamer is dairy-free and flavored with real pumpkin purée, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, so you can indulge in pumpkin spice totally guilt-free.

Easy Halloween Makeup Tutorials Anyone Can Follow

The Everygirl’s product selections are curated by the editorial team. If you buy something through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely love.

We’ve all been there: you get invited to that last-minute Halloween party with your closest friends, and somehow, everyone but you already has a costume. While your friends are in their Cheetah Girls outfits or your BFF and her partner planned the perfect couples costume, you’re stuck wondering if a random Halloween tee from Target will suffice (Hint: It will not). When this happens, easy Halloween makeup is the best thing to turn to.

Instead of running to the costume store and spending $50 on something you’ll never wear again, opt for an easy costume you can do with mostly makeup—and we found tutorials on YouTube that were made for beginners and experts alike.

1. Morticia in The Addams Family

Go creepy and kooky with one of the most classic costumes of all time, and this makeup tutorial makes it beyond easy. Pop on some dark eyeshadow and a red lip, and you’re ready to celebrate. You won’t be able to get the theme song out of your head all night.

Calling all Disney girls—this costume is perfect for family-friendly events (and the bar crawl too!). She uses an eyeshadow palette on the eyes, and then uses eyeliner and white face paint to create the whiskers. We can all agree Scar is the scariest Disney villain, right?

The Best Spooky Podcasts to Listen to This Month

Source: Monstera | Pexels

At one point in time, getting your fix of scary content wasn’t so easy. You’d either have to watch the occasional documentary that came out or fill your brain with fictional tales told through books or movies. But now? The world seems to have hopped onto the scary train, and there’s no shortage of ways to consume the spookiness we’re seeking—especially through spooky podcasts.

The problem? Not all podcasts are created equal, and sifting through all of them can take longer than listening to an episode you’re actually interested in. After a little trial and a lot of error, we’ve found 14 scary podcasts that are worth your ears’ attention this month.

Get in the mood for spooky season with these 14 bone-chilling podcasts:

1. Haunted Places: Ghost Stories

Episodes: 50+

Length per episode: 30 minutes

If you also snuggled up every night as a kid and read Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark under your covers with a flashlight, this podcast is for you. Every Thursday, host Alastair Murden tells a different bone-chilling ghost story (that you’ve probably never heard of). It’ll feel like you’re sitting around a campfire and hearing a story from your most entertaining friend—and it’ll leave you feeling scared every week.

2. Unexplained

Episodes: 6 seasons, with about 20 episodes each

Length per episode: ~30 minutes

This bi-weekly podcast dives into real-life events that simply don’t have an explanation. By mixing spoken narrative, history, and ideas, it will make you go into the depths of your brain to examine what you believe about reality just in time for the scariest season of the year.

3. Dr. Death

Episodes: 8 (not including bonus content)

Length per episode: ~40 minutes

If you’ve never heard of Christopher Duntsch, he’s basically the Dirty John of the medical world, and this podcast dives into exactly how the “neurosurgeon” was able to trick so many people (and leave 33 patients with nobody to defend them). The ~40-minute episodes are perfect for accompanying you on an October evening walk.

4. The Black Tapes

Episodes: 3 seasons, 30 episodes

Length per episode: ~30 minutes

If you’re into the supernatural and are craving some real-life ghost stories for the season, look no further than The Black Tapes. This serialized docudrama dives into a journalist’s experience with a mysterious subject and “the literal and figurative ghosts that haunt them both.”

5. Limetown

Episodes: 10+

Length per episode: ~30 minutes

Ten years ago, over 300 people disappeared from a small town in Tennessee and were never heard of again. This podcast aims to answer one question: What happened to the people of Limetown?

6. Mile Higher

Episodes: 175+

Length per episode: 1+ hours (usually closer to 90 minutes)

One of my personal favorite podcasts of all time, Mile Higher takes a deep dive into real-life crime stories, mysteries, and unexplained phenomena. From conspiracies to JonBenet Ramsey, this covers any and all of your spooky fascinations with hour-plus long episodes that leave no stone unturned.

7. The Vanished

Episodes: 300+

Length per episode: 1+ hours

If you’re less into ghost stories and more into horror stories that involve the living, The Vanished dives into the stories and circumstances of real-life people who have gone missing. The host goes beyond what was reported in the news and provides exclusive interviews with family, friends, law enforcement, and experts involved in each case.

8. Solved Murders: True Crime Mysteries

Episodes: 65+

Length per episode: ~30 minutes

If unsolved true-crime stories drive you crazy, this podcast dives into some of the most gripping murder stories of all time—all of which were solved. It includes what goes into catching a killer and what really went on behind the scenes of each case.

9. Unsolved Murders

Episodes: 200+

Length per episode: 30 minutes to 1 hour

As Solved Murders’ sister podcast, Unsolved Murders is exactly what you’d expect: the same storytelling but without the clear-cut ending. This podcast dives into some of the world’s most notorious cold cases and covers different theories on lead suspects, leading its listeners to draw their own conclusions to each story.

10. The Last Podcast On The Left

Episodes: 400+

Length per episode: ~1 hour

Described as covering “all the horrors our world has to offer, both imagined and real, from demons and slashers to cults and serial killers,” The Last Podcast On The Left truly has something that will interest everyone. With over 400 hour-plus long episodes on every spooky scenario you can imagine, you can scroll through the episode titles and choose whatever you’re feeling on each day.

11. Not Another True Crime Podcast

Episodes: 170+

Length per episode: ~40 minutes

If you need a healthy dose of humor with your true crime, this podcast (produced by Betches) will give you the stories you’re craving with some witty humor and commentary on the side. Perfect for playing while you’re lounging around with a glass of wine, this will make you feel like you’re talking about true crime with your best friends.

12. Alice Isn’t Dead

Episodes: 50+

Length per episode: ~20 minutes

This podcast follows the story of a truck driver searching across America for the wife she assumed was dead. Throughout her search, she encounters conspiracies and unexplained phenomena that you’ll have to hear to believe.

13. The NoSleep Podcast

Episodes: 600+

Length per episode: 1+ hours (sometimes over 2 hours)

This award-winning podcast tells about five stories per episode, making it feel like an endless stream of spooky content. There are a wide variety of stories covered, but they’re all told as a first-person experience and are consistently scary as hell.

14. The Bright Sessions

Episodes: 130+

Length per episode: ~20 minutes

The Bright Sessions is a science fiction podcast that follows a group of therapy patients. But these are not your typical patients—each has a unique supernatural ability. The show documents their struggles and discoveries as well as the motivations of their mysterious therapist, Dr. Bright.

10 Ways to Hygge Your Home and Make It More Inviting

Source: @kellyetz

As the seasons change, we’ve been hearing a lot of talk about Hygge (it’s pronounced “hoo-guh” BTW). If you haven’t heard of the Danish and Norwegian concept, it’s a way of life or feeling of coziness, connection with loved ones, and pleasure. It’s not a decor style or self-care practice but rather an overall feeling of comfort, wellness, and contentment. There are many ways to adopt and embrace this Danish way of living, especially as the weather gets colder and we’re all looking for more “cozy” in our lives. But one of the biggest pieces of hygge is how you make your home environment for optimal health and happiness. Take a few notes from the Danish and make your home cozier and more inviting with these 10 ways to bring hygge into your home.

1. Incorporate natural elements

There may not be a lot of green outdoors through the colder months, but that doesn’t stop the hygge-practitioners from bringing it inside to lighten and brighten their homes. Wood is another material that helps bring nature into our home for a cozier, happier feel. Wood floors, furniture, or decor can help us feel closer to nature, which is a very important part of the hygge concept. Bring more natural elements into your home, like textured pieces, lots of clay, unfinished wood, and fresh greenery.

2. Add more candles

Many people first think of candles when they think of hygge, and for good reason. The glow of candles creates the perfect atmosphere, lifting the spirits and casting warm light on a winter evening. Turning off artificial lights and opting for candles transforms any space into a cozier, more romantic, and more intimate oasis. Whether it’s during a night in alone or while entertaining close friends, there’s nothing more enticing than a room lit by candlelight. Read our complete guide to the best candles of the season to not only get more candlelight in your space but also to incorporate hygge-approved scents as well.

3. Let there be (more) light

Beyond just candles, natural light in general is a huge factor of hygge. Because the weather is cloudy and it gets dark earlier as the seasons change, the Danes take their lighting very seriously. A hygge home draws in as much natural light as possible. Think of candlelight as your go-to option for evenings, but incorporating more natural light in the home is your go-to during daylight hours. Keep curtains open and position mirrors on walls across from windows to double the natural light in your home. If your space has few windows or it gets really dark during colder months, be strategic about lamps. Choose light bulbs with a more orange tint instead of blue light, and position lamps near the coziest areas of your home (like near a favorite reading chair).

4. Put your favorite books on display

Taking a break with a good book is one of the mainstays of hygge, especially in fall and winter, when people are cooped up inside. Displaying all of your favorite classics or that stack you’ve been meaning to get to (you know the one) not only adds a cozy element to your home but will also inspire you to stay home and snuggle up with a good book. Try filling a shelf with gorgeous books or stack your favorites on coffee tables and side tables. Books have a special way of making a space feel more welcoming and lived-in (very hygge-appropriate).

5. Create “the nook”

Every hygge home needs that perfect place to curl up with a blanket and relax. In fact, there’s even a Danish word to explain this perfect little spot: hyggekrog, or a cozy corner. Think of it as your safe space where you can be at peace, read a book, and have a cup of tea or hot cocoa. To create your own hyggekrog, start with your comfiest chair or a favorite corner of your sofa. Layer pillows and throws to make your nook the coziest spot in your home, position it by a window or add a warm lamp for soft lighting, and add a side table for the perfect spot to put your favorite cup of tea.

6. Highlight warm elements

Let’s be honest: It doesn’t get much cozier than lighting a fire when the weather is cold. In fact, a living space focused around a fireplace may just be the ultimate sanctuary. To bring this into your home for year-round hygge, make the hearth the focal point in the room (rather than the TV, for example). A room built around a fireplace will help create intimacy and warmth, even when the fireplace isn’t lit. If you don’t actually have a fireplace in your home (because same), try clustering candles as a focal point, add warm lamps around the room, or have ample blankets and pillows draped on every piece of furniture. No matter what works for you and your space, make warm elements the focal point of each room.

7. Try a warm, neutral color palette

By now, you probably get that hygge is all about warmth and making your home feel inviting and comforting instead of cool. Basically, it’s the antithesis of sleek and modern. Besides actual warm elements like candles and lighting, color scheme has a major effect on how hyggelig a home feels. Cool tones or bright pops of color aren’t necessarily a no-go (the point is to evoke the feeling of home, however that feels to you), but warm neutrals like creams and beiges tend to feel more relaxing and inviting than cool gray or dark black and feel less cluttered than bright colors. If you stan a dark wall color or live for your bright sofa, you don’t have to transform your entire decor style to add hygge into your home. Simply add a few throw pillows, blankets, art work, decor pieces, or other accents in neutral colors.

8. Layer in textures

You guessed it: Texture matters too. The right tactiles are so important when it comes to hygge interiors, since the lifestyle is all about how you emotionally feel, which is represented by what you physically feel with your home decor. Aim for a variety of textures (think: soft sherpa, warm knit, and rough wood) for a comforting and balanced feel in every room. Since it’s all about how you feel rather than just how it looks, think about what textures would feel best for you and add in a variety of elements: picture running your fingers run across a wood table, being wrapped in a linen blanket, or stepping across a fur rug.

9. Incorporate vintage touches

Flea market shoppers and antique hoarders, rejoice! Ancestry and nostalgia are both important parts of the hygge life, which means vintage pieces or personal touches are crucial to making a home feel as warm and welcoming as possible. In fact, household objects, furniture, and decor should be more than just things that look nice and show off our style; they should also hold emotional value or tell a story that is personal to the owner. Incorporate vintage touches that have a history, like your grandmother’s favorite teapot, a landscape portrait your mom bought when she was in college, or even just your favorite photos of family members when they were younger. Also, think of decor shopping in terms of making memories: fill your home with items you bought from travels or recover a vintage chair you found at a flea market with your best friend.

10. Remember that simplicity is key

Lastly, remember that the hygge life is about ease, contentment, and comfort. If there’s a cluttered corner or a piece of furniture you don’t really love, you probably aren’t as content as possible when you’re enjoying your home. Only fill your space with the things that really make you happy and donate whatever doesn’t to create more simplicity. Hygge is not about extravagance but about taking pleasure in the sheer simplicity of your immediate surroundings. In other words, actually use your space for living rather than as storage for your stuff.

10 Celebrity Workouts To Try at Home RN

Source: Getty Images

PSA: Most celebs credit more than just good genes for their I-woke-up-like-this glow or flawless looks. It’s not like there’s something in the Hollywood water that keeps every A-lister in tip top shape and otherworldly beautiful (but if there is, I will get to the bottom of it). Most celebrities have entire teams behind them to help them be their best selves and put in a lot of effort to get fit for a movie or build up endurance for a world tour.

Lucky for us, celebrities are no longer just faces in our favorite films or voices on the radio. It’s the age of social media—we can look to the stars for hair inspo or beauty tips and can even use celebrities to plan workouts. Our favorite stars and their famous trainers have been sharing at-home workouts on their social media accounts so that us mere mortals have access to the behind-the-scenes teams, getting our own sip of the Hollywood water.
